    Can someone please confirm if this Desk must only be plugged directly into a wall outlet? Is it safe enough to plug it into an Extension? Reason i asked is because I would not expect it to be safe to have the desk in an extension with my PC then being connected to an extension in the cable managment tray.

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 2 дні тому

      It would always be recommended to plug it directly into the wall since otherwise you would be effectively chaining several extension leads (and therefore plug connections) together. The desk is in effect an extension lead (albeit with just one socket) and most users would almost certainly put an extension lead into the cable tray so that's two extension leads right of the bat. If distance from the mains socket is an issue then it would be best to get a longer properly rated (i.e. thicker cores) power lead. Thankyou for the comment though it's a good point to raise for other people.

    I really enjoyed the detailed video. Quick question: Would you recommend this bag to someone who frequently travels by air? I’m concerned about its size and weight. While the dimensions might meet FAA guidelines, the bag's weight of over 2.5 kilos is a significant concern, especially since most airlines have a limit of 6-8 kilos.

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 2 дні тому

      Nerves got the better of me when I flew to Sweden to a company event in 2023 where I was filming, so I took my smaller 350 Pro-Tactic. Which was very tight for space. Last year in 2023 I travelled with it to another company event and after thoroughly checking the rules I took the 450 and it was accepted for travel and fitted in the overhead lockers ok. It will definitely NOT fit under seats and I was careful on the weight focusing on the expensive , lower weight and bulkier items. I also removed the waist band and put that in my hold luggage which saves a little weight. Of course different airlines have different policies (or officious staff on the day) so its always a risk they could insist on it going into the hold at the last minute. An alternative is to check the multi bag policy and have two bags since I find something like the LowePro slingshot is more functional for day trips so I often take that along as well anyway.

      @@DTSquared Thank you so much! It is a great bag but not suitable for every type of air travel I guess. I need to find something a bit lighter to save some weight.

    on the negative side its a tad skewed only on 1 point where you talk about the need for a drill, my set came with a tool to do that by hand, although that was 8 years ish ago. and i can see on your desc you have the same tool your just missing the blue bit..

    • @DTSquared

      The tool is still in the kit and I do mention it in the video. It comes in two parts the bit that goes in the drill and then an orange handle that it can attache to. I also point out that it's probably not practical to put a lot of pegs in with the provided tool as that would take quite a while.

    Great explanation. Does the shunt show the amp in and out separately. I d like to know the generated power rather than the net.

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 4 дні тому

      Thankyou. No the shunt can't measure generation at the same time as usage (i.e. if you have a solar panel in circuit). It will only measure the net loss or gain. Which is a benefit since otherwise it would not be able to keep track of the batteries state of charge. If you have a smart solar controller then that could measure the generated current and by combining the data from both devices you could know the current used, generated and subtracted (I.e. deficit in the battery). Ideally the victron shunt and solar controller, which do communicate, should record data from both devices and do the maths but unfortunately they don't. (Hence the video title.)

    Hi Dave, that marker light is the reason why we feed the awning from the rear, which has its own complications, the curve is super tight at the rear and a right pain in the ******* to feed past the join in the rail. Keep up the excellent work anyway. Dan

      @DTSquared 5 днів тому

      Hi Dan, I think I remember you mentioning it in a video. • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 6 днів тому

      Thanks I'm glad you like the moving shots, they take a lot more effort to get but I enjoy them. The extending slider is the Moza SlyPod Pro. It's basically like a monopod but motorised and heavier, it has a detachable tripod base so you can use it to do vertical lift type shots as well as sliding out to do horizontal shots or other angles if attached to a full tripod. Definitely much more compact than the traditional slider that I used to use, which came in a case about 100x30x10cm and once setup was a real pain to carry around sites. Like most devices these days it connects to an app so you can control how fast it extends, start stop points and all that fun stuff. EDIT : Just noticed your channel, I also did a review of one of the ATEM MINIs a few years back when I setup a multicam system during lockdown for a friend who teaches music :)

    Hi Dave , a little bit of genius with the marker light protector but we always put the awning on from the rear so don't have the issue of hitting it. Just a question re your lock n level did you really need it at the site as it doesn't appear to be inflated every much. But another good video. Gaz

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 6 днів тому

      Thanks, Gaz. glad you liked the marker light idea. In terms of the lock'n'level, we pretty much always use it. Partly because even on a flat pitch, it's often not perfectly level, and the LnL allows millimetre adjustment (up) so can get the van perfectly level so the sink drains, etc. Also, the gravel was quite deep, so it wasn't as level as you might think. More importantly, the LnL is the only way we can fit both ALKO locks without jacking the van up. But you are correct it was almost entirely deflated. Dave

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 7 днів тому

      Th MiRider 24 GB3 looks interesting and the 24inch wheels will certainly make it more comfortable and stable over longer rides or rougher terrain. I'm surprised that they have stuck with the gearless approach on this model, it made some sense on the folding bike to save weight and more importantly no vulnerable derailleurs when folding. And folding bikes are usually for commuting and shorter trips. But the 24 GB3 looks better suited for longer rides and tougher terrains where gears may be more useful. I'm sure you'll really enjoy it though, electric bikes really are a great way to get more out of cycling.

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 14 днів тому

      It's obviously safest to not to exceed the maximum weight restriction so I wouldn't suggest you do that. But before you look for alternatives have you checked the bike's weight without the front wheel? This would potentially reduce the weight by 1 or 2 kilos, possibly more. Also unless you have a dropper post, you could consider removing the saddle (and post) when putting the hike on the roof. Failing that you may need to consider alternatives such as rear mounted carriers as most of the roof carriers max out at 18kg. Please let me know if you do find one that solves your problem though. Best of luck.

    This video shocked me !!!! A TOYOTA LAND CRUISER BREAKING DOWN ! But just to tell you I also have a Land Cruiser and I also had a alternator failure However it was just a day after I returned from holiday with my caravan Phew a lucky escape ! I first called an Auto electrician to diagnose the fault can he confirmed it was the alternator He told me this often happens while towing a caravan with the fridge running 12v direct from towing vehicle seems the fridge really works the alternator hard and if its coming to the end of life it will finish it off ! A bit of luck tho I managed to get an up graded 160 amp alternator now supplying my fridge when running 12v PS Your Land Cruiser didn't really break down after all an alternator is a consumable If you want a real breakdown you should have bought a Land Rover 😂

We have BIG road trip with the caravan coming up so I'm glad it happened before that, but at the end of the day it's all part of the adventure.

    Great review - thank you! Can I ask how big your monitor is? I’m planing to have a 32in and 28in dual monitor setup, and wondering if perhaps the monitor wobble would be reduced with a smaller monitor? I also plan on having the desk pushed up against a wall, so I’d be in the same situation with the side placement of the arm. Thank you!

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 27 днів тому

      Thank you glad you liked it. My monitor is 30inch (diagonal) and the wobble hasn't been a problem (apart from when I make it wobble by drumming on the desk, but it stops when I tell myself off 🤣). If you are using the double arm then I'm not sure how much you could move the mount to one side. I have my desk about 4inches from the wall (distance makes the lighting effect better on my wood veneer panels.) With that gap I can get the lower arm section pointing straight back. I'm not sure if the lower weight would make much difference. There's an argument to say that a lighter monitor has less inertia and so could wobble more. But I suspect the difference would be very marginal either way.)

    Just buy a little more 3/4G. Then just use your hotspot off your phone. Most phones are far ahead of any other piece of kit. I pay £5.00 a month to get plenty of airtime. Can watch between 50 to 70 films a month. No holes in your roof and @ £5.00 a month extra on my phone is super cheap. It would take about 10 years before it equals a wifi router or satellite dish.

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 27 днів тому

      Using your mobile phone, as I said in my video, is certainly the lowest cost option for having WiFi on site . . . if you can get signal. In low signal areas it's the least reliable. In the few months since fitting the Avtex unit we have already stayed at several sites where our mobile phones could not get a reliable internet connection. But the Avtex, on the same provider could.

    FYI C&MH DOES allow tents on some of their sites. I should know my Vango tent looks nothing like a caravan.

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 28 днів тому

      Hi yes I'm aware, someone else had already pointed it out in the comments. The main reason for mentioning tents re C&MC was that a lot do not allow tents and so the camping club makes more sense if choosing a club to join. Also a lot of CLs are less suitable for tents.

    Hi, Great video just got my self a lithium 105ah fogstar for caravan, did you ever do anything with you car charging the van battery? Did you make a video about it cheers

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 29 днів тому

      Hi Scott, Glad you liked the video. I haven't changed anything in terms of the car to van charging. There is a product from Sterling Power called the "Wildside" which amongst other things controls/boosts the voltage to ensure that sufficient voltage reaches the battery. It also has Lithium charging profiles I believe. I haven't fitted one because for our typical holidays we wouldn't be usually making that many site to site trips. So for almost all towing journeys the battery will already be full (just left home) or not need to be full (about to be put back in storage). We are about to embark on a major trip this year which has TEN campsites but all of those have mains hookup so again charging between sites is not really a major requirement. Also worth bearing in mind the likely charge rate from the car using the existing cabling and that the solar on the roof will be charging whilst driving anyway. You can also get B2B chargers from Victron and others but from my initial research the Wildside is more appropriate for caravans. Hope that helps.

    • @scott8579
      @scott8579 29 днів тому

      @DTSquared Thanks for the info, do you not have your fridge on battery when travelling to site, fogstar told me it wouldn't be a problem, as the bms would stop charging anyway, lots of info out there some not correct i believe. its same with, the caravan charger, they told me it would be ok and not need a lithium one as the solar charger would finish it off.

    Was wondering what that little red wire was for. Probably also how it determines the voltage.

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 29 днів тому

      Yes it also detects the voltage as without it the shunt would only be able to measure the voltage across the shunt which is not the same thing as the battery voltage.

    After 25 years, last changed from the AA to Mayday, due to the cost of the AA ever increasing. Infact the Mayday total premium plus cover was just over half that requested by the AA with an enhanced level of cover including home start and onward which the AA didn't have. When I phoned to cancel my AA renewal they suddenky offered ne a massive discount but it was still higher than Mayday and offered less cover. Hopefully I will never need to call Mayday.

      If you are in a static caravan that you are renting then putting something like the Avtex on the roof probably isn't an option. Your best best will be something temporary, that may include getting a different SIM during your stay. Hi, thanks for video. I have question becasue at the switch there is and ext and int, do we have two pumps there ? because when I switch to ext nothing happens, shall you explain this topic to us ?

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared Місяць тому

      Hi, if you have "INT" and "EXT" labels on the control panel then you will almost certainly have an onboard water tank in ADDITION to the temporary external tank (usually an aqua roll or similar). If you switch to INT then you should hear the pump running in the onboard tank (it's easy to hear as it is inside the van). Unless you've filled the tank up it will likely be running dry. The EXT setting turns on the external pump but you will have to have plugged it into the side of the van (as you should see in my video). If the external pump is plugged in but not running then check the contacts as I showed in my video. Good luck.

Ironically I have free free RAC membership from my insurer, and Land Rover / Range Rover recovery as part of my car warranty but have still kept the Mayday going, just in case. As in lock in place? I think so from memory but I'm not near the unit to test it. I use SD slots so often that I'm pretty sure I'd have noticed if it didn't. I was towing my caravan for 2 years thinking my AA Volkswagen breakdown cover covered the caravan. I have discovered it does not. If the car breaks down, it will get the car and caravan to destination or home etc. If the caravan has a puncture or worse, I cannot get them to come out and fix it. That is the extent of cover. So I have just taken out Mayday cover which covers car and caravan. Question:- Why don’t breakdown companies do bolt on cover for towing. I now have 2 lots of breakdown cover for car. I am also going abroad in September with Caravan. First excursion abroad with caravan so I have taken out Red Pennant. I don’t know if good value or not but it does include travel insurance as well as breakdown insurance so at nearly £300 it probably is. (My wife and I used to travel on our bank travel insurance - not with caravan - until I turned 70 and then it was another £150’ish so again £300 for travel and breakdown / get you home insurance is, I think, reasonable. ) Why doesn’t somebody do all encompassing insurance with the necessary bolt ons. Or perhaps somebody does and I cannot find it.

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared Місяць тому

      We have a big euro trip coming up and will take out clubs Red Pennant insurance for that. My parents have used it in the past and it has been very good (though that was a while back now.) A bolt on option certainly would make sense.

      @@DTSquared Dave (and all). Somewhat connected, but something to be aware of. A friend of mine had "Fully Comp European cover" on a motorhome, which was explicit on the cover of the policy certificate. However, on page 6 of the small print, it stated that the policy cover was "the minimum required in that country", which meant they only have third party..... Just something to be aware of. BTW. Hi Dave, Interesting stuff. Alternator went on my Kuga the day we were going on holiday with the caravan. Luckily it occured on the drive but the Ford dealer couldnt look at it for over a week and took great delight on quoting me £900+ for a new alternator.(I remember when they were £40 quid and you could fit them in half an hour!) I then had great delight in telling THEM that it was covered by one of their warranties! We have green flag through our bank and it covers the caravan but Ill check now that the onward journey is covered. Was the land cruiser under warranty?

The table will no longer go down below that point (even when using a previous preset that was lower).
